BRIGHTON PIER

Fund-Raising Plans

The New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society hopes to have raised £2OOO towards renovating the pier by the middle of next month. Executive members are approaching donors to contribute £lOO each. A New Brighton resident has promised £lOO if 19 others will match his donation. Next month, the society will conduct a city-wide direct appeal, with a house-to-house collection in the New Brighton district A pony gymkhana is to be held at Queen Elizabeth II Park on September 12. All major pony clubs have promised full co-operation and the proceeds will go towards restoring the pier. Entertainment may run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Other functions are being planned for October and November and the committee has several ideas for capitalising on the goodwill of summer visitors to the seaside ■uburb. The society’s aim is to raise £17,500.
