GOAL KICKS MISSED
NEW BRIGHTON 14: D. palton a try; T. Bodger a conversion and three penalty goals. SHIRLEY 9: D. Frampton and E. Veal, tries; R. Hicks a penalty goal. New Brighton’s win by five points was somewhat flattering, and the result was against the run of the play. Had Shirley’s B. Richards been In his earlyseason goal-kicking form, his side could have won quite comfortably, but many attempts to kick goals failed. On the other hand T. Bodger enjoyed considerable success with his kicking and his three penalty goals were of great benefit to his team. It was a match of considerable movement, which became very rugged towards the end. Shirley had the better of the play, and with plenty of pos. session had many chances. New Brighton’s only try came rather unexpectedly, when I. Penrose started off with the ball at toe, picked it up and kicked ahead for Dalton to win the race. Referee: Mr H. P. Kearney.
