CANTERBURY TESTED
Good Defence By Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 19. Wellington's little fancied Rugby League 13 made the Canterbury side work for the full 80 minutes on Saturday before Canterbury won, 9-5. Rarely has Wellington shown such courageous defence. It was only In the last minute that Canterbury scored its try, when a strategic kick by the captain, M. L. Cooke, sent a fellow forward. E. J. Tavendale, skidding over in the corner. In conditions which were very much against open play Wellington applied Itself well to the task of holding a bigger pack, and also produced some fine attacks; However, the outcome was a fair indication of the merits of the teams on the day. Canterbury's points came from a try by Tavendale and three penalty goals by P. M. White. For Wellington, B. Church scored a try and N. Beri converted.
