TRAPPED BY JIB
Crane Hit Office (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 19. Paperwork was abruptly interrupted for Mr B. Sinclair, a railway goods shed storeman, when the jib of a mobile crane crashed through the side of his office shed about 4 p.m. yesterday. It missed him by inches and trapped him in. his chair.
Mr Sinclair was untouched by the jib or flying timber from the wall. He was treated for shock by a Wellington Free Ambulance officer, but stayed on the job. It took some minutes for workmates to break a way through the shattered wall to free Mr Sinclair after the accident. The impact tossed the 25ftlong timber and corrugated iron shed back about four feet. The mobile crane was working in the goods shed loading steel from a truck to a railway waggon when it toppled. The driver jumped clear and was unhurt.
The end of the crane’s jib was extensively damaged.
