(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)
BRISBANE, July 19. Brisbane detectives believe they have smashed a well organised gang of criminals who last May polled off Australia’s biggest cigarette robbery. In a series of raids over the last three days the detectives arrested two men and will probably charge at Itast nine others. Detectives will leave Queensland this week to arrest the men who they believe organised the robbery. Almost two million cigar-
ettes worth more than £15,000 were stolen in the theft from a transport terminal in the Brisbane suburb of Rocklea. One man arrested and charged today is alleged to have received one million cigarettes. Another is alleged to have received 200.000 cigarettes. The thieves used bolt cutters to break into the Ansett transport terminal at Rocklea to get a semi-trailer loaded with the cigarettes. They drove away the truck, which was later found abandoned.
