THERAPY OF SPEECH
Christchurch
Praised Christchurch Teachers’ College may be the only teachers' training college in the world where speech therapy is made an integral part of teacher training, says Mr J. Power, borough education officer. Tottenham, England, in a letter to the college. “During the last two years or so we have had a very successful arrangement in Tottenham for providing English lessons to small groups of children from overseas who have little or no English.” Mr Power writes. ‘Tn this work I have had the help first of Miss E. M. I. Cooney and later of Miss G. L. Smith and Miss A. E. Young, all of whom were trained. I believe, at Christchurch Training College. So far as I can tell this may be the only training college in the world where speech therapy is made an integral part of teacher training. It is an admirable system. I am writing to you because you may like to know how helpful your former students have been in this special work.”
