Pay For Ear Protection
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 16.
To earn an extra 2s 6d a day, workers at the Wairakei geotherma) steam station must, in future, wear ear protectors at certain times and places. “A monetary allowance on the ground of noise is not, in our opinion, warranted,” says the Government Service Tribunal. The allowance will be awarded to employees working on the generation floors of the A and B stations when the steam equipment is in operation, or on pipelines or other installations in the bore valley, subject to their using ear muffs or other approved ear protectors as directed.
