HARBOUR BOARD TROPHIES

Those who had the interest of the quality of primary produce at heairt were helping all the people of New Zealand, said the chairman (Mr A. A. Macfarlane) at the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s meeting yesterday.

He was presenting the trophies awarded annually by the board for the best-quality cheese, butter, and export lamb sent through the port.

The winners of the cups were: cheese, the Pigeon Bay Co-operative Dairy Factory Company, Ltd. (Mr L. R. Atkinson manager); butter, the ‘ Kaikbura Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. (Mr D. H. Melville, manager); export lamb, Mr K. R. Shirtcliff, Tai Tapu. Mr Macfarlane said it was fitting that Pigeon Bay had won the cup, as it had decided to close cheese production.

The company had won the cup three times since Mr Atkinson had been manager. The Kaikoura company had won the butter cup five times in the seven years the competition had been held, Mr Macfarlane said. Mr Shirtcliff had also won the export lamb cup two years ago'.
