P.M. Seemed Tired After Busy Day

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter)

WELLINGTON, July 1.

The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) looked tired and lacked his usual buoyancy when he left his office soon after the House rose at 10.35 this evening. He remained in the chamber until the adjournment to make a statement on Commonwealth affairs.

The addition of final preparations for his departure tomorrow for the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference to routine matters appeared to leave the Prime Minister weary after more than 13 hours in Parliament Buildings today. He arrived in his office about 9.30 a.m., attended a meeting of the Executive Council at 10 a.m., and before lunch received several official callers and heads of

departments and held a conference with some of the Cabinet.

During the day, the chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (Sir Peter Phipps), called to discuss the A.N.Z.US. Council meeting

- and the Prime Minister also . conferred with the Secretary ' of External Affairs (Mr A. ’ D. Mclntosh). Mr Holyoake also met the > president of the Federation ;of Labour (Mr T. E. ’ Skinner). i Mr Holyoake spent an hour in the Chamber after 2.30 ! p.m. before he gave a telei vision interview in his office. i He had other callers and conI suited with the Deputy-Prime I Minister (Mr Marshall). Later, members of the

Cabinet bade farewell to the Prime Minister in Mr Marshall's office.

During much of the evening, Mr Holyoake worked on papers at his desk in the Chamber which he left for a brief press conference.
