Archbishop Not Shocked
< fX.Z.P A.-Zeuter— Copyright) LONDON, July 1. > The Archbishop of < Canterbury (Dr. Ramsey) yesterday declined to *• condemn outright the < topless dress erase. •* In faet the Anglican leader condoned what he - called “new methods of > dress that might seem -Z queer to older people.” •; He was asked if a Christian who was > offended by a topless
dress should express his “disgust”
Dr. Ramsey replied: “He should express his disgust at anything indecent But short of that the less disapproval he expresses the better. “The fact must be accepted that young people express themselves in new methods of dress that might seem queer to older people. We must accept the fact and get
alongside them and understand them. “It is tied up with the churches* approach to secularism. The question is one of being as interested as possible in other people’s outlook and ideas.” Dr. Ramsey said the “worst thing" possible for church people was to adopt an attitude of “being shocked.”
