Drunk On Nutmeg
(N Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)
LONDON, July 1. A 42-year-old mother of six who took to nibbling nutmeg while working in the kitchen found that the effects were similar to being drunk, says an article in the July issue of the “Practitioner.” Eventually the woman’s “hangover” symptoms were diagnosed as being due to nutmeg poisoning,, wrote Dr. J. H. Rees, of Swindon, Wiltshire. “The effects would appear about an hour after beginning to nibble. There was a pleasant, almost hilarious sense of drifting off to sleep.” The woman was left with a “sense of utter exhaustion” for the next one or two days. Complete recovery took a week. The habit was stopped “without difficulty.”
