Market Quieter But Tone Still Firm
Trading was less active over fewer issues on New Zealand stock exchanges yeste.day, but the market tone continued firm with overseas issues stronger and rises by key stocks outnumbering falls more than two to one. Several New Zealand issues made impressive gains. News of higher profits and dividends boosted Dominion Breweries, up 6d at 17s fid, and Neill Cropper, up Is 6d to 29s 6d.
Insurances again improved, with gains by National, New Zealand and South British. Armstrong and Springhall, Beechey and Underwood, Whitcombes and Wilson and Horton made further gains.
