Seasonal Rise In Unemployment

Unemployment registrations in Christchurch last month showed an increase on the totals for May, said the deputy-superintendent of the Labour Department (Mr A. B. Tuck).

The number of males registered was 100, compared with 80 in May, and of this total 61 were receiving unemployment benefit. Twenty-two women (15 on unemployment "benefit) were registered, an increase of five over the May total. Mr Tuck said the increase was a seasonal trend.

During the month 153 men and 29 women were placed in jobs.
