PARTY SONGS

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

LONDON, July 1. The Conservative Party is throwing a pop record into the election battle, the “Daily Express” reported.

The seven-inch disc, entitled “Songs for Swinging Voters,” issued today. The first print of a quarter of a million puts it well up among Britain’s “top 10” discs.

The record is being given away to every Young Conservatives branch that asks for copies.

The disc has five songs rnock- • ing the Labour Party and one hitting at the Liberal Party leader, Mr Jo Grimond. All are set to old tunes.

The song titles are: “John Citizen,” “Nationalisation Nightmare,” “Four Jolly Labourmen,” “One Man Band,” and “Poor Old Joe.”

The words are by lan Wallace, an opera and cabaret singer and an active Conservative. He sings all five songs.

To the tune of “Phil the Fluter’s Band,” the Labour Party leader, Mr Harold Wilson, is presented as a one-man band.
