S. RHODESIA TRIAL

Acquittal Of African (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) UMTALI (Southern Rhodesia), June 30, The Rev. Ndabaningi Sithole, president of Southern Rhodesia’s Zimbabwe African National Union, was acquitted today on two charges of making subversive statements. Mr Sithole was alleged to have referred to Southern Rhodesia’s “unjust laws” and “rubber stamps of injustice” in speeches he made last March. Mr Sithole pleaded not guilty, but admitted using the words contained in the charges. The Magistrate, Mr C. A. Redfern, said there was no suggestion that Mr Sithole had acted from corrupt or improper motives.
