CONVENTION PROPOSED
Delegates Not In Favour
A proposed soccer convention at Wairakei in mid August is not favoured by the Canterburv Football Association.
Its management committee considers the time lost in travelling to and from th? fashionable tourist resort would be better spent as an extension of the national half-yearlv meeting.
A letter from the council of the New Zealand association received last night said It was proposed to discuss matters of national Interest—such as pub lie relations. the national league and soccer publications —at the convention.
South Island delegates would receive a subsidy on their fares to and from Wellington and would travel the rest of the way in council members' cars. Costs at Wairakei (twin bed rooms, with bath: £5 a day) would be borne by the individual delegates. "That makes two meetings a year (the annual and half yearly meetings of the New Zealand body), now a convention and next it will be a picnic,” said Mr R. van der Monde.
Mr R. Storer said the convention would be a picnic if the delegates went to Wairakei. The time lost travelling would be spent more wisely as an extension of the half-yearly meeting. The Southland Football Association will be told that August 15 is the only date available for a Canterbury v. Southland representative match. The Southland body said It had a game against Otago on that day and requested another date.
