TOUR OFFER REJECTED
Olympic Travel Plans Made
An invitation for the New Zealand Olympic hockey team to tour Indonesia on its way to Tokyo later this year was turned down by the New Zealand Hockey Association's management committee in Christchurch last evening. A suggestion by the Indonesia Field Hockey Federation, which made the invitation, that- a visit could possibly be made after the Olympics if it was not suitable to stop off on the way, was also rejected. An offer to make a visit to New Zealand and a request for “a proposal regarding the dates convenient” were received with caution. It was agreed to write to the Indonesian Federation pointing out that travel arrangements to and from Tokyo had been completed without provision for any stop-over and that its offer to visit the Dominion would be kept in mind when arranging future international programmes.
In his letter, the president of the Indonesia Field Hockey Federation (Brigadier-General Umar Wirahadikusamah) said: “We hope that it will be possible for your team to come to Indonesia for a short tour on your way to Tokyo or on your way back. In the former case ' a number of practice games before the Olympic Games wilt help you in final preparation.”
