There were 151 confirmed entries for a 7200-mile round Australia trial, when the entry list closed tonight. The event is the first major inter-state car trial to be held in Australia for six years. Starting from Sydney on June 14, competitors will travel through New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria before finishing in Sydney on June 28.

The trial has attracted nine works teams, including two from Volkswagen and one each from Skoda, of Czechoslovakia, Toyota, of Japan, Ford, Holden, Peugeot, Hillman and Zeta.

The prize money is £AIO,OOO, with £A3OOO for the outright winner.
