Selector To Retire

Mr R. Burke, who has probably had more All Blacks under his guidance in the post-war Rugby years than any other coach or selector, will retire from selecting after the New Zealand Universities play the Australian Universities at Lancaster Pari? today. Mr Burke, a former Canterbury and Wellington representative hooker, coached and selected for Wellington from 1949 to 1951.

From 1952 to 1956, he coached the Victoria University senior team which included such great All Blacks as R. A. Jarden, J. T. Fitzgerald, D. J. Fitzpatrick, S G. Bremner, L. T. Savage, and W. H. Clark. In 1956 he coached the New Zealand Universities’ team which defeated the Springboks Except for 1957, he has been a New Zealand Universities’ selector and coach for eight years.

First Choice.— The Flying Dutchman Owners’ Association president, Mr D. St. Clair Brown, was last night voted Auckland’s first choice for manager of the Olympic yachting team.—(P.A.)
