PEOPLE IN THE PLAY
The Otago Golf Club has conferred life membership on Mr B. V. Wright, a leading figure in the game both as competitor and administrator. In 1933 he won the national amateur championship and represented New Zealand against Australia. He was a prime instigator of the Otago Golf Foundation and is an Otago and New Zealand Universities selector.
The former Canterbury captain and All Black forward, S. F. Hill, now stationed at Waiouru Military Camp, is playing a major role in producing some competent footballers among the national servicemen. ¥ ¥ ¥
The former New Zealand Rugby League centre and a member of the Auckland team to play Canterbury on Monday, R. S. Cooke,
scored 37 points for his club last Saturday. Cooke, playing for City-Newton (82) against Eastern Suburbs (0), scored three tries and kicked 14 goals. His total of points this season is 166 (20 tries and 53 goals) in only eight club games.
