MORE SEATS IN HOUSE
Submission By Ombudsman (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 21. The Ombudsman (Sir Guy Powles) today supported calls for more members of Parliament. He was giving evidence before the Constitutional Reform Committee. The committee is hearing evidence on the need for a second chamber, a written constitution and a bill of rights. . In answer to a number of questions, Sir Guy Powles said that an increase in the number of members would enable an improvement in committee work.
For a variety of reasons an increase would be a good thing, and the coiiimittee work was only one of them.
He said it would relieve the individual load on members and give an opportunity for longer consideration of many matters.
