“Beehive Botch”

The beehive design for the proposed parliamentary building looked a “botch,” said Mr M. L. Newman, at the monthly meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce council, last evening.

The original design, he said, looked something that New Zealand could be proud of. Mr Newman conceded that he was probably out-of-date and “not much of an architect.” He wondered if some-

thing should go forward from the council on the subject.

“To me it seems a disgrace that New Zealand Parliament should be represented by what was published in the paper this morning,” he said.

When Mr Newman was asked by the chamber’s president (Mr E. Fraser) if he wished to move that the matter be taken up with the. Associated Chambers he replied that he did not.
