RACING JANLEA DEAD

“The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, April 2. Janlea, which severed a tendon during the running of the Autumn Handicap at Wingatui on February 22. was destroyed during the week-end after an attempt bad been made to save her for the stud.

The operation to tie the severed tendon was considered to be a success when the plaster was taken off a week ago. but a few days later Janlea broke her pelvis when attempting to get up. Janlea was trained by H. A. Anderton for Mr A. J. Smiley, of Wingatui, who bred the Harken mare. She was the first foal of the Royal Chief mare, Royal Vision, which was also raced by Mr Smiley. From 39 starts Janlea won seven races and was placed IB times for stakes to the Value of £l9BO.
