TRAVEL AT 101

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 2. A woman aged 101 and her 69-year-old daughter yesterday began the first stage of a car trip from Waihi to the South Island. They are Mrs A. J. Friend, who will be 102 in September, and Mrs M. E. Nichol, who will be the driver for the trip. From Wellington they will cross to Picton in the Aramoana and then go to Nelson where Mrs Friend was married in 1882, seven years after her arrival in New Zealand with her parents in the Michael Angelo. Mrs Friend had three sons and two daughters. Her hobbies include reading, knitting, current affairs and watching television. Her only disability is deafness.
