NEW WATER SCHEME
Progress At Halswell Work on the Halswell County Council’s high pressure water reticulation programme is well ahead of schedule and already more than half of the 600 houses in the 108-acre Cunningham, Scott and Cameron subdivisions are drawing water from the scheme. The remaining houses will be connected within the next few weeks.
The council’s engineer (Mr M. J. Clark) said yesterday that water for the three subdivisions was being drawn from an existing well in Gore street.
A new reservoir is planned for Kennedy’s Bush road and when completed, this will provide water for the whole area. Tenders for the 100,000-gallon reservoir will close on April 8.
Mr Clark said the high pressure system had yet to be run along Junction road. Then Halswell road, Glovers road, Candy’s road and Saby’s road would be connected, he said. A start would be made soon on the restoration of footpaths opened for the installation of pipes, said Mr Clark. The scheme is expected to he completed by August.
