New Trophy
s A new trophy will be s at stake when the annual s Oxford Show is held to- < morrow. This is the Ashv ley Cooper Memorial * trophy, made available to s the association through a S bequest by the late Mrs s Lucy Jane Cooper in s memory of her husband. J who was a keen sups porter of the horse s events at the Oxford s Agricultural and Pastoral s Association's show. The k trophy will he used for 5 the light horse events 5 and this year has been s allocated to a district k hack event. s * The connexion of the £ Cooper family with the * Oxford show goes back to £ the first show in 1906, when the late Mr 11. T. s Cooper, father of the late * Ashley Cooper, was
chairman of the general committee. When the association was officially constituted in the next year he was elected a vice-president and in 1908 he was president. Mr Cooper also took a competitive interest in the light horse section in those early shows. After the First World War Ashley Cooper was prominent in the Lloyd Lindsay military horse events and was a member of the team that won an Australasian championship. He was a keen member of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry between the two wars and during the last war was an officer in the Home Guard. The new trophy is a silver tray valued at £25.
