ARGENTINE BOXER DIES
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, April 2. Alejandro Lavorante, the former Argentine heavyweight boxing champion, who was badly hurt in a fight 18 months ago, died in Mendoza, Argentina, yesterday. Lavorante, aged 27, was knocked out in a fight in Los Angeles. After three brain operations Lavorante was semiconscious, could open his eyes, walk from his wheelchair to his bed and eat his food unassisted. The first operation, to remove a clot, took place the morning after the fight. The second operation was to relieve pressure on the brain, which consisted of the removal of a 6in x sin section of the skull.
Scanlan Waits
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 2. The British Empire middle-weight boxing champion, Tuna Scanlan, and his manager, Mr Leon Tansey, are awaiting Monday’s meeting of the Auckland Boxing Association before deciding upon the champion’s fight programme.
