MORE BACK PLAY
Appeal Made To Clubs The Referees* Association had promised that referees would give every assistance to ensure that the intention of the new laws would be expressed in New Zealand Rugby, said Mr C. A. Blazey. Mr Blazey said the intention of the new laws was to provide more opportunities for back play: it was now up to the players to take full advantage of the laws.
He appealed to delegates to ask clubs in their unions to play Rugby in accord with the intention behind the laws.
“The new laws could give a great impetus to Rugby. We do not want a continuation of the trend towards negative and spoiling play,” said Mr Blazey. “In the near future I hope to be able to do something for the futherance of Rugby,” said Mr M. R. Love when he was re-elected as the Maori member of the council of the New Zealand Rugby Union. Mr Love was referring to the invitation issued to him by the South African Rugby Board to attend its jubilee celebrations.
