Athletics HURDLES TO STAY
Opposition To Proposal A suggestion by Mr R. Elder that the Canterbury Athletics Centre’s hurdles should be put well away in their storage shed, met with aggressive opposition from the caretaker at Rugby Park. Mr C. C. Gordon, at last night’s meeting of the centre’s executive. “I’m against. I’m absolutely against it, Mr Chairman,” said Mr Gordon. “You can’t deprive a kid of the chance to train. They can go along there and long jump, and they can sprint: they should be able to practise hurdling too. “The hurdles get bashed about more being put right away. We can get a tarpaulin to cover them.” Mr Elder then withdrew his suggestion and said that “it can sort itself out next year.” Records Approved The following Canterbury athletic records were approved:— Men.—Senior: M.
