The Diamond Harbour Volunteer Fire Brigade was called out yesterday to a grass fire on the property of Mr R. M. Manson at Mount Herbert yesterday. The fire spread over about five acres before it was contained and put out with the help of beaters. An oven fire in the home of Ronald Freeman, 73 Tancred street, caused slight damage. Firemen from the Woolston station answered the alarm at 2.28 p.m. Slight damage was done to the wiring of a ear, belonging to Mr Noel Burns, when the engine caught fire in Waterloo road at 6.36 p.m. Sockburn firemen attended.
