REGIONAL SHOPPING

N.Z. Peak In 5 To 7 Years (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 2. Planned regional shopping centres, which have recently been introduced to New Zealand, will prove to be the greatest advance in retailing in the twentieth century, the Auckland Provincial Retailers' Association secretary-manager, Mr R. M. Barker, said last evening. Mr Barker predicted that shopping centres would reach their peak in New Zealand in five to seven years. Retailers had unnecessary fears of what shopping centres might do, he said. The important thing was to see that their growth did not exceed that of the population. Mr Barker said the problem of peak-hour trading would never be solved with satisfaction to buyer and seller alike. Mr Barker recently returned from a retailers’ seminar in Melbourne.
