INDUSTRY IN AREA

Full Review Planned The industrial promotion committee of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association yesterday decided at its inaugural meeting to carry out a complete review of all matters relating to Canterbury industry. Fields of the most vital interest, said the committee’s chairman (Mr R. G. Pearce), president of the association, would include freight, building costs, labour force (comparisons) amenities and rates. Mr Pearce said that at the committee’s next meeting price comparison figures for setting up factories in principal New Zealand centres would be available. It was believed, he said, that costs were considerably cheaper in Christchurch. Mr Pearce said the association would carry out a survey of industrial growth in the last two years and projected industrial growth for the next five years.

The indications were that there was already a tremendous expansion in existing industry in Christchurch, he said.
