SHOOTING SEASON

Opening Day May 2 Licenses for the game-shoot-ing season are now available, the secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr E. J. C. Hay) announced yesterday. Claim-pegging starts at noon ion Sunday, April 12, and shooting begins at 6.30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. Limit bags are the same as for last season except that pukeko may not be taken north of the Ashley river. The season for grey and spoonbill duck, mallard, and pukeko lasts until June 1. The limit daily bag for grey duck and female mallard is 10, for spoonbill five, and for mallard drake 15, with an over-all limit of 10 extendable to 15 where the additional birds are mallard drakes. The limit for pukeko is three, but these birds are not included in the over-all limit bag. The season for black swan, Canada goose, chukor, and California quail ends on July 31. There is no limit for any of these species except quail, where the daily limit bag is 10.

It will be a closed season for pheasant and paradise duck.
