Labour Party Policy
Sir, —I support the Labour Party’s return to full socialism. The Welfare State has smoothed the raw edges of capitalism, but the need to eliminate a system based on greed remains as strong as ever. Modern socialism is not for industrial troublemakers with resentments. Modern socialism seeks the allegiance of scientists, financial and industrial managers, as well as society at large, which suffers under the morally disintegrating effects of capitalism. The capitalist system is wasteful and inefficient, except where concentration has occurred and here the unsatisfactory situation remains that people are employed by an anonymous body of shareholders not merely interested in profit, but also in the inflation, of the currency. Attempts to organise society rationally, acknowledging that man is his brother’s keeper, should not only be advocated by trade unionists; such moves should arouse the feelings of all those who have the welfare of humanity at heart.— Yours, etc., SOCIALIST.
