Nurses’ Uniforms

Sir, —I have a photograph of my grandmother taken at a nursing graduation in Chicago in 1912. The uniform is neat and trim, identical, in fact, to that worn by nurses in both our public hospitals in Christchurch. The skirts in the photograph are a little longer and the hair styles different; but the resemblance is amazing.—Yours, etc., L. SECORD, March 31, 1964.

Sir,—Having trained at the Christchurch school of nursing, I feel rather indignant at the opinion expressed by Mr V. J. Corbett regarding trainees’ uniforms. Personally, 1 think they are as neat and smart as, if not smarter than, many I have seen. What counts most are the qualities and abilities of a nurse on duty, not whether she is considered a “fashion plate.” —Yours, etc.,
