PRAM HIT BY CAR
A baby, aged 5j months, was thrown from his pram on to a footpath and suffered head bruises and cuts, when a car and the pram collided on a busy Intersection in Christchurch yesterday. The baby, Philip Aldrich, the son of Mr and Mrs H. R. Aldrich, of 18 Heron street. New Brighton, was taken to the Christchurch Hospital. He was allowed to be taken home after treatment
“Philip was very lucky. The pram was squashed by the car, and Philip was thrown a considerable distance,” said Mr Aldrich last evening. “My wife, who was pushing the pram, is still very shaken and upset It was not a pleasant experience for a mother.”
Hr Aldrich said his wife was on the footpath at the
light-controlled intersection of High and Lichfield streets. “She was watching the ‘Cross Now’ light, as it is a long crossing. When the light came on, she set out quickly,” he said.
The police had informed him later that the light synchronisation at the intersection was faulty, Mr Aldrich said. The motorist was in a hurry to catch his light before it changed to red. “Whatever the cause, the impact was considerable. The pram shows that,” Mr Aldrith commented. There were screams as the accident happened, about 2.30 pm. A large crowd gathered. Mrs Aldrich went in the ambulance nth her baby to the hospital. A motorist took the damaged pram to the hospital.
