CHILDREN’S COURT CASES FOR MONTH
During January the following cases were dealt with in the Children’s Court, Christchurch, by Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M.t— Two boys, aged 16, appearing on charges involving theft, wilful damage and indecent writing, were both released on two years’ probation and ordered to make restitution of £1 13s 2d each.
A girl, aged 11, and a boy, aged four, were placed under supervision for three years on a complaint that they were living in an environment detrimental to their physical wellbeing. Two years’ supervision was ordered for two girls, aged 12 and 13 years, charged with breaking and entering. Two boys, aged 11 and eight years, were placed under supervision for 18 months when they appeared on charges of theft and burglary and complaints that they were not under proper control. A similar decision was given in the case of two boys, aged 15 and 13, charged with theft.
Six boys, between the ages of 12 and 14, appearing on theft charges, were placed under supervision for 12 months, restitution of £5 19s 8d being ordered in one case.
Supervision was ordered for three boys between the ages of 13 and 15, charged with unlawful taking, and two girls, aged 14 and 16, appearing on charges of wilful damage. Also placed under supervision was a 14-year-old boy charged with indecent assault on a male and a 13-year-old boy charged with unlawfully taking a power cycle. A 15-year-old boy, charged with burglary, was placed under supervision for 12 months and ordered to make restitution of £6 12s 3d.
Charged with dangerous driving and having no driver’s licence, a 16-year-old boy was placed under supervision for 12 months, fined £5 and prohibited from obtaining a driver's licence *or two years
A 16-year-old boy charged with unlawfully taking powercycles, was placed under super-: vision until he is 17 and disqualified from obtaining a driver’s licence for a year. Seven boys, aged between 14 and 16, appearing on charges of theft and burglary, were admonished and discharged. Two boys, aged 14, charged with theft and breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, were both admonished and discharged as was a 16-year-old girl charged with disorderly behaviour. Five girls and one boy, between the ages of 14 'and 16, were admonished and returned to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare when they appeared on charges of theft, unlawful taking and receiving. A 16-year-old boy charged with theft was fined £2O and costs £1 10s.
Charged with careless driving and failing to stop and ascertain injuries, a boy, aged 15,’ was fined £3 and prohibited from obtaining a driver’s licence for six months.
On charges of drinking liquor in a public place and purchasing liquor as a minor, a 16-year-old boy was fined- £3.
A boy, aged 17, was .fined £1 for consuming liquor -in a public place.'
