(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 28 Wellington won three of the four singles matches and led. 3-2, against Auckland at the end of the first day of their Wilding Shield lawn tennis match today. A doubles, between E. White and A. S. Burns (Auckland) and J. B. Souter and R. G. Clarke (Wellington) was unfinished when bad light stopped play. Resulta (Auckland names first): — L. A. Gerrard beat R. N. Hawkes, 8-1, 6-8, 6-1; J. E. Robson lost to J. B. Souter, 6-8, 0-8; A. S. Bums lost to R. G. Clarks, 0-8, 3-8; E. D. White lost to B. Taylor, 7-5. 3-6. 4-6; Gerrard and Robson beat Taylor and Hawkes. 8-4, 8-2; White and Bums v. Souter and Clarke, 6-1, 2-8, 5-5 (unfinished).
