Army Colonel Arrested

French police tonight announced the arrest of a Congolese army officer, Colonel Aphone Pakassa. for the massacre of 13 Italian airmen in 1961. The airmen were attached to the United Nations Congo emergency force. They were killed by a Congolese mob in the province of Kindu.

Colonel Pakassa was arrested at Orly Airport on Saturday on his arrival from Leopoldville on his way to Algiers, police said. He was travelling under an assumed name. Police said that the French Ministry of Justice is studying requests by the Italian and Belgian Governments for the extradition of Colonel Pakassa.
