Riccarton Win Two Events By winning three sporta to two. Kaikoral Valley High School (Dunedin) won its annual sports meeting against Riccarton High School at Christchurch yesterday. Ksikorai won the tennis, softball, and the girls’ athletic*, andßlccarton took the honours in the cricket and the boys' athletics. Cricket In a low scoring match, Riccarton gained a narrow onerun victory on the first innings. After dismissing Riccarton for 79, Kaikoral at one stage were five wickets down for 64 runs, but good bowling by W. Wilson saw the last five wickets add only 14 runs. Scores: Riccarton 79 (J. Young four for 30) defeated Kaikoral Valley 78 (A. Bartlett 27, B. Lloyd 20; W. WUson five for 41). Athletics Kaikoral Valley dominated the girls' athletics to such an extent that Riccartor gained only two victories, and finally lost by 19 points to 8 . In the boys' athletics Riccarton won by 15 points to 9. A throw of 40ft Ojln by C. Hawkes set a new Riccarton record. The best Kaikoral performance was a mile run by B. Taylor In 4:316. Softball In a high scoring but close encounter, Kaikoral Valley won by 25 runs to 20. Kaikoral were slightly superior in fielding, an advantage that won them the game. Tennis Kaikoral Valley dominated the girls' tennis and gained an even share of victories In the boys’ singles to win by 12 rubbers to 4. Results (Kaikoral Valley names first): Boys’ Singles.—N. King lost to G. James, 6-4, 1-6, 3-6; R. Petherioklbeat G. Kerrldge, 6-2, 6-4; R. Lftthian beat R. Riden, 6-5, 4-6, 6-3; G. Orr lost to B. Buchanan, 4-6, 6-3,3-6. Doubles: King and Petherick lost to James and Kerrldge, 6-5, 3-6. 10-8; Luthian and Orr lost to Riden and Buchanan, 4-6, 5-6. Girls’ Singles.—J. Holden beat E. Bishop, 6-3 6-1; F. Kennedy beat C. Henderson, 6-5, 62; M. De Lambert beat C. Roberts. 6-4, 6-4; B. Powell beat L. Swanston, 6-4, 6-4. Doubles: Holden and Kennedy beat Bishop and Henderson, 6-2, 6-4; De Lambert and Powell beat Roberts and Swanston. 6-4, 6-2. Mixed Doubles.—Lelham and De Lambert beat Riden and Roberts. 6-2, 6-3; King and Kennedy beat James and Bishop, 6-4, 6-4; Petherick and Holden beat Kerrldge and Henderson, 6-3, 6-2; Orr and Powell beat Buchanan and Swanston, 6-3, 6-2.
