ANY PERSON OR ORGANISATION INTERESTED IN SUBMITTING EVIDENCE TO A WORKING PARTY SHOULD INFORM THE SECRETARY OF THE WORKING PARTY CONCERNED BY DECEMBER 15. 1963. AND SUBMIT FIVE COPIES OF HIS OR ITS EVIDENCE NOT LATER THAN FEBRUARY 29. 1964. The working parties and their terms of reference are:— FINANCE Secretary: H. D. Chambers, Treasury. Wellington. Terms of reference: 1. To consider sources and terms of finance axailable to the farming industry: (a) For seasonal expenditure; (b) For capital Investment for the purpose of increasing production; (c) For farm development. 2. To report on the above matters and indicate whether any changes are desirable to provide adequate finance on reasonable terms for the attainment of the production targets for meat, dairy produce. and wool, and to assist its efficient utilisation. TAXATION Secretary ; P. G. Walker. Inland Revenue Department, Wellington. Terms of reference: 1. To examine the structure and incidence of taxation as it affects farm production, particularly meat, wool, and dairy produce. 2. To report on the above matter and. having regard to the need to maintain an adequate level of tax revenue in relation to national income. to indicate what changes in the tax structure might assist the attainment of the targets for meat. wool, and dairy produce. LAND VALUATION Secretary: D R. B. Dodson. Valuation Department. Wellington. Terms of Reference: To examine and report on the present land valuation system and its relation to market values of land and to farm costs and to report on any desirable changes. SCALE OF FARMING Secretary: P. H. C. Lucas, Department of Lands and Survey. Wellington. Terms of reference: To examine the operation of the existing law of land aggregation; to report on the influence of scale on farming; and to indicate what amendments to the law or other measures are desirable to encourage the optimum size of unit. Terms of reference: To examine the efficacy of the present organisation for control and eradication of noxious weeds, noxious animals, and farm pests, and to indicate anv desirable changes. To consider the present manpower position of the farming industry and possible requirements in relation to the production targets for wool, meat, and dairy produce. 2. To consider the facilities available for training of farm workers. 3. To report on the above matters. indicating what action, if any. needs to be taken to ensure the availability of an adequately trained and housed farm labour force.
