NO SURPLUS OF FIT MEN
Unemployment Down No surplus fit labour was available in Canterbury, said the District Superintendent of the Labour Department (Mr C. P. Collins) yesterday. The province, he said, was finding it difficult to fill vacancies in reading, drainage and eartih-moving work. In November, the department was able to place all fit persons, including university students. There was no demand for factory labour, and the demand from the retail trade had been met' Unemployment in Chriatchurch district, said Mr Collins, was considerably, lower this November than last. More than two-thirds of the enrolments were placed during the month. The unemployed’ in the district for November were: sixty-three men, including 44 on unemployment benefit, and 13 women. Ificluding 10 on unemployment benefit.
