WARNING ON KAIMAIS
Map Issued To Pilots (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. Confirmation that the Kaimai Range is now officially recognised as mountainous terrain is contained in a notice issued this week to pilots by the Civil Aviation Administration. The area was declared mountainous the day after the crash of a DC3 aircraft there on July 3. Confirmation has come in the form of a C.A.A. map showing mountainous areas —the first of its type to be issued by the administration. A notice accompanying the map says pilots must fly not less than 2000 ft above terrain designated mountainous. The map is issued primarily for the benefit of aero clubs. With advances in the equipment they are buying, many of them will soon be operating under instrument flight rules. Unlike airlines, these clubs do not have to seek C.A.A. approval of the routes they fly, but the map now issued will help indicate to them how they can fly more safely.
