PAINTING FAULTS

Guild Warns Public (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. Mr R A. Waite, secretary of the Auckland Guild for Master Painters, Decorators and Signwriters, today warned the public against painters with little or no knowledge of the trade. He said he averaged two to three complaints a day of faulty workmanship. His advice was for people to see their solicitors, and he was prepared to give evidence on his opinion of the job in any court action. The guild was prepared to give advice to the public, he said. This included a recommendation of good tradesmen irrespective of whether they were members of the guild. Mr Waite said it was hoped to persuade Parliament to introduce a system of registration and bond payment on workmanship, similar to that now in force for used ear dealers. Even if this was not done through Parliament, the system might be introduced within the trade itself.
