SHIPPED IN BAGS

Cars Protected From Spray (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. An Auckland car assembly plant has discovered a novel idea for shipping cars to South Island ports. They are simply driven into huge plastic bags and carried as deck cargo. The bags, specially made at a cost of about £3 each, provide complete protection from salt spray which could cause havoc with paintwork and chromium. The firm claims the bag technique also speeds distribution as the number of cars which can be sent as general cargo below deck is necessarily limited. Cars carried as deck cargo in plastic bags are just as safe as those below as they are well lashed down. Loading them as deck cargo is also simpler than loading into the holds.
