RACIALISM DRAFT

N.Z. Abstains From Vote

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, Oct. 29.

New Zealand and Australia were among 17 nations which abstained from voting when a United Nations committee passed a strong resolution condemning racial discrimination as a violation of human rights. Western nations, while expressing support for the basic aims of the draft, said they had abstained because the United Nations was trying to make the “promotion’’ of racial discrimination a crime punishable by law. There were no votes against the draft. South Africa was absent.
