The first shipment of Berish tiles fcr the Christ- ( church-Lyttelton road tunnel will arrive in the English i Star at Lyttelton on Friday: and will be on the titej within a day or two. The tiles from Britain were ordered by the - contractors at er it became evident that the Temuka factory could not. produce tiles quickly .1 enough to enable the contract; to be completed in time. i Meanwhile the placing of' the ceiling tiles is proceeding; satisfactorily. The con tractors for the I tunnel are right up to date; with their programme, but as has been announced the tunnel will be opened slightly later than originally expected because of a delay in the | construction of the administration building. The staff of the company which is installing the elec-' tronic communication systems in the tunnel arrived on the site yesterday and will begin Work today The system will provide for J traffic control, warning de-1 vices to deal with vehicle j breakdowns or fires, a watch' on air purity, lighting levels, the height of vehicles using the tunnel, and toll collections and traffic counts.
