5 Appointed Lecturers

Several appointments to the staff of the University of Canterbury were announced to the university council yesterday by the Vice-Chancellor (Dr. L. L. Pownall).

Mr F. C. Gair has been appointed senior lecturer in mathematics. A Dunedin man. he graduated master of science with second-class

honours at the University of Auckland in 1953. He has since been a research mathematician in Britain and California. He is stationed at present in California. Two new lecturers in mathematics are Dr. P. J. Lorimer, a graduate of Auckland University who is at present at McGill University, in Canada, as a Commonwealth scholar, and Mr D. P. Alcorn, a Canterbury graduate who held a University National Scholarship from 1958 to 1960 and was awarded tire Sir George Grey scholarship in 1961.

Mr C. R. Hasseldine, who has been at Canterbury since 1959, has been appointed a lecturer in accountancy. In 1961 he won the Accountants’ and Auditors' Association prize and was also joint winner of the University Grants Committee award for the best paper in advanced accountancy. Mr B. Keeling, who graduated in 1962 and has equivalent first-class honour* in psychology, ha* been appointed as a lecturer in education. He is at present teaching at Avonside Girls' High School.

More than 560.000 page* of valuable manuscripts and books were microfilmed last year by the U.N.EJS.C.O. mobile microfilm unit during a six month visit to Rabat, Morocco.—UNJLS.C.O.
