COMBINED FLAT PLAN
Pensioner And Public (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 29. The Government has sanctioned a Wellington scheme to combine public rental flats and pensioners’ flats in the same buildings. The Wellington City Council sees it as one answer to the problem of economic construction of flats. Under the new plan, the Government will grant a maximum of £BOO for each pensioner unit, “cheap” 3J per cent interest loans for the balance of the buildings.
The council will lean towards building a high proportion of bed-sitting room flats in the pensioners’ blocks. Pensioners will pay £1 12s 6d and others will pay about £3 10s if present plans work out.
