HIGH SCHOOL HOSTEL
Choice To Be Made Soon (NX Press Assoc'atlon) WELLINGTON, Oct, 27. Another post -primary sciool hostel to hold 70 to 80 boarders is to be provided next year in accordance with the Government's decision last year to build five such hostels over a five-year period the Acting Minister at Bducation (Mr McKay) snnounced today. A choice of school for the hostel is to be made between Marlborough Boys’ and Girls' Colleges (considered as one unit), a girls’ high school in Dunedin, Palmerston North Girls’ High School, Tararua College, and Te Awamutu College.
A decision on the site of the hostel will be made when the boards at the schools have completed surveys to showtie numbers and eligibility of pupils likely to be available. Two-thirds of the 70 to 80 pupils to be accommodated have to be eligible for the boarding allowance granted by the Education Department. This year priority had been given to Hamilton Boys' High School because of a long series of postponements and because there was no boys’ hostel between Auckland and New Plymouth. More than 20 schools all over New Zealand had applied for hostels. Tourists are flocking to a new exhibition of live sharks and octopi in the Undersea gardens in Victoria Canada.— Reuter.
